Something has been bothering me about Ritter dropping out. According to the Post,
U.S. Sen. Mark Udall and U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette announced they would call a meeting of Democrats in the state's congressional delegation, along with Colorado Democratic Party chair Pat Waak, for 1 p.m. today to "discuss how to go forward as a party."
Does this scare anyone else? Everyone seems totally blown away. Could it be that literally no one knew?! That Ritter didn't talk about this with anyone. How could it be if he was feeling this way, why wasn't he working to ensure that the most qualified Democrats in the State were lined up ahead of time? Why wasn't he convincing Romanoff to run for Governor, instead of waging an insurrection against Sen. Bennett?
If Ritter wants to spend time with his family, that's totally fine. If he doesn't want to run for reelection, also fine. But why was this a surprise to party insiders? Why wasn't handled better?
Perhaps Ritter felt that by surprise retirement (surp-tirement?) would give his party an edge in the next gubernatorial election. I doubt that's the case, but the only other reason I can see for a surp-tirement is that he's trying to screw somebody, or several somebodies.
ReplyDeleteLet's just hope it's not the Dems.
